12 cyanide fishers nabbed in Pandan

Twelve fishermen from Bagamanoc are in real trouble after they were caught using cyanide to catch fish inside the municipal waters of neighboring Pandan last week.

Appropriate charges for violation of Republic Act 8550, or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, are being readied for filing against Roque Saldua Jr, Jerry Buban, Crisol Gonzales, Efren Zapanta, Michael Tilo, Ariel Ovang, Binson Buban, Roque Tulod, Nilo Evangelista, Allan Segismundo, Junjun Tulod. And Renan Saldua, all of barangay San Isidro, Bagamanoc, for possession of cyanide and illegal fishing paraphernalia.

The 12 were arrested by policemen led by PO2 Donald Caballero, together with BFAR personnel Bantay Dagat members and Pandan municipal agriculture office personnel during a joint operation against illegal fishing activity at the sea waters of barangay Baldoc, Pandan.

Confiscated from them were three liters of sodium cyanide liquid, nearly two liters of the same chemical in solid form, two air compressors, two compressor tanks, two compressor hose each about 135 meters long, six spear guns and two motorized bancas.
